How much are lessons? My current rate is $195/hr for all online lessons. Payment is accepted via Paypal or Zelle (if you'd like to avoid the Paypal fees) and is due prior to the lesson. Please note: I cannot reserve a lesson-time until afterpayment is received. The average lesson is 1, 1.5, or 2 hours. Shorter and longer lessons are available upon request to on-going students. Rates: $195 - 1 hour $390 - 2 hours
Do you offer packages? Which one is right for me? I do! Read the descriptions below to see what package might suit your needs best. Feel free to email me at GMATrockstar[at]gmail.com if you have any questions about what is right for you! Purchasing a package in advance allows you to save a little money.
10-hours for $1,930 (save $20!) Need 5-10 lessons to brush-up in one area over 1-2 months? A quick 10-hour "tune-up" in either Quant or Verbal is the way to go!
15-hours for $2,875 (save $50!) The 15-hour package is perfect for students who need help in one area only, and are looking for 8-10 lessons spread out over 2 months.
25-hours for $4,775 (save $100!) The 25-hour package is the most popular for students brand-new to the GMAT. Usually broken up into 12-15 lessons, it allows us enough time to map out your Study Plan, review essential strategy for all question-types. This is ideal for students who would like to meet 1-2 times a week and take the exam in 2-3 months.
35-hours for $6,675 (save $150!) The 35-hour package is great for students who are new to the GMAT, or need to completely overhaul their study plan for a re-take and need help in both the Quant and Verbal sections. Usually broken up into 17-25 lessons, this is ideal for students who would like to take the exam in 3-4 months.
50-hours for $9,450 (save $300!) 50-hours is my most comprehensive package. If you would like to do one 2-hour session a week, but need to spread out your studies over 5-6 months, this package is ideal. If you need to "cram" or want a rigorous schedule (i.e. 4 hours a week of tutoring over 3 months), this package is also recommended.
What is included when I purchase a package? Packages include unlimited ongoing email support. Email me as often as you'd like, and I will respond within 12-24 hours, and often sooner. That's right, you can get those 2am questions answered. :) Single sessions do not include unlimited email support.
How can you charge so much less? By cutting out the middle-man! I spent years working for many different test-prep companies that charged clients much, much more than they paid their tutors, then pocketed the difference. I believe test prep education should be affordable to all, and have set my rates accordingly. My prices are lower than any major test prep company's, and I have more experience than almost all of their employees.
How many sessions will I need to get a good score? Each student is unique, so the time needed to achieve your target score will depend on your starting scores, homework done between sessions, level of commitment, etc. For a completely "from scratch" introduction to any test, I usually suggest 15-20 hours to allow you to build a solid foundation. You're always welcome to purchase 1 or 2 hours to start, then buy more time later if we are a good fit!
What materials do you use? I provide all homework via email. What I assign entirely depends on the student's needs, but typically a mix of original questions I have written, Official questions, and relevant questions from high-quality publishers such as Manhattan, Veritas Prep, Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc. I am also happy to work with you on any outside problems you have, and I also provide links to relevant online material. It's all customized to your specific needs!
How do the lessons actually work? Once we schedule a mutually convenient time via e-mail, we'll meet on Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype and work through the material verbally and visually. All you need is internet access and a microphone/web camera. We may look at relevant websites together as well as study materials I send via email.
Can you give me some free advice on my study plan, or can we do a free consultation first? Since I offer unlimited e-mail support to my ongoing students, I cannot promise to respond to every non-student email I receive, especially requests for (unpaid) study plan advice or free phone calls to discuss your situation. The best way to see if we're a good fit is to schedule a 1-hour lesson. If you're looking for free advice for the GMAT, I suggest you check out GmatClub!
What is your cancellation policy? I have a strict 12-hour cancellation policy. That means once we have confirmed a lesson via e-mail, you must notify me at least 12 hoursprior to the start of the lesson to keep the credit. For example, if we have a lesson scheduled for 9pm EST, then you need to e-mail me to reschedule by 9am EST. That said, life happens. I get it, and I have on occasion waived the 12-hour rule for emergencies, but it is entirely at my discretion. If for any reason I have to reschedule last-minute (it's very rare), you of course will keep your full credit, and we will reschedule.
What if I have technical difficulties? When you pay for and schedule a lesson, remember to make sure you have: 1) a working Zoom/Skype/Google account, 2) a headset/microphone, and 3) a good internet connection prior to the start of the lesson. If you spend the first 10 minutes of your lesson "setting up" your Zoom account, that will unfortunately come out of your time. If you are late to your lesson, that will also come out of your time. If for any reason there are unforeseen technical difficulties on my end (bad connection, dropped calls, power outages, etc.), I will either refund your lesson in its entirely, or we will reschedule.
Are you available on weekends and evenings? Yes! I typically tutor between the hours of 9am-10pm PST (Los Angeles-time). I also tutor weekends, including Sundays. Just send me an e-mail with your specific needs to gmatrockstar[at]gmail.com.
Do you do MBA admissions consulting? Nope! I stick to what I know, but I do share many of my students with an excellent admissions consultant, Scott Edinburgh at Personal MBA Coach. I highly recommend him.
I don't need exam tutoring, but can you read my essay? If you require detailed expert written feedback, whether it is for SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, or college applications, you may purchase 1-hour of tutoring ($195), and email me your essay. I will spend an hour reading and reviewing it and providing you with specific feedback. You may then submit a second draft, or an entirely new essay, for review at no additional charge. I will also include any relevant essay templates or additional materials I feel may benefit you.
What if I'm in Los Angeles, and would like in-person tutoring? While 95% of my lessons are taught via Skype, I am very occasionally available for in-person tutoring in the greater Los Angeles-area. My in-person rate is currently $350/hr. Contact me at gmatrockstar[at]gmail.com to request in-person availability.
